Rebecca Stockert is an artist living and working in Fort Wayne, IN. She has been researching and making art inspired by Gene Stratton-Porter since 2017. Her work explores the world through narrative illustration; topics include feminism, sustainability, and environmentalism. She often uses nature imagery as a springboard for exploring these ideas, especially the natural flora and fauna of the Midwest. As well, she enjoys using imagery from popular culture for reference and the sake of humor. She is the owner of Cat People Press.
The project is a temporary outdoor art exhibit featuring narrative illustrations by Rebecca Stockert, inspired by the poetry and prose of Gene Stratton-Porter. Six illustrations will be reproduced on outdoor material and placed around the grounds at the Gene Stratton-Porter Historic Site in Rome City, IN, also known as Wildflower Woods. Visitors will experience the magic of Stratton-Porter’s writing and Stockert’s illustrations as they wander through the woods that was once Stratton-Porter’s home. Artwork will be donated to the site upon completion. Spring and Summer 2022. The first 20 donors who make a gift of $50 or more will receive a print of Stockert’s artwork of their choosing.
