New virtual reality equipment available to any artist for 3D experience in June

FORT WAYNE, IN (Monday, May 8, 2017) — Artlink is proud to introduce the first open virtual reality creative space in northeastern Indiana. Starting in June, this VR space will allow community members to create in a uniquely immersive environment.

“This isn’t just about bringing the next ‘cool creative tool’ to the region,” said Matt McClure, executive director, Artlink. “We are, and it is, but it’s also something more significant. We’re talking about a seismic shift in providing access to creative tools to artists, both professionals and students in the region.”

Using the HTC VIVETM along with Google’s Tilt Brush app, individuals are able to access the open VR space and create original art from sculpture to fashion and virtual paintings, each in fully immersive 3D environments.

Each VR rig will give individuals access to a set of VR goggles, two handheld wands and two sensors allowing the individuals a grid in which to access that the virtual space. The images created using the VIVETM wands and Google’s Tilt Brush app – among other creative apps – are visible to onlookers by a large HD monitor.

The VR creative space will be located in the educational wing of Artlink, 300 E. Main St., in downtown Fort Wayne. Public access will be available on a first-come basis in half-hour increments with varied pricing for Artlink members and nonmembers.

Initial availability for studio time is Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon to 7 p.m. Additional hours may vary.

Special thanks to photographer Ruth Yaro, and to Punch films for allowing Artlink to demo this incredible technology with area artists in their space. Also, Artlink thanks its community partners for making this project possible. For more information about Artlink, visit ArtlinkFW.com.
