Artlink’s Crosswalk Murals Fully Funded by Amplify Art!

FOR Immediate RELEASE October 12, 2015

Fort Wayne, IN: Crosswalk Murals on the Arts Campus will soon be a reality thanks to a new local crowdfunding platform called Amplify Art!

The Crosswalk Murals are one of four projects that are currently featured on the Arts United Amplify Art! web page from October 1, 2015, through October 31, 2015. Amplify Art! is a social crowdfunding platform started by Arts United in 2015 to turn up the volume on local art and culture projects in Northeast Indiana. It showcases local arts and culture projects and anyone can donate to a project or spread the word on social media.

Executive Director of Artlink Contemporary Art Gallery, Amber Foster shares, “We are so excited to be one of the projects selected for Amplify Art. Our crosswalk murals will act as a springboard for more public art in our community, and we can’t wait to add vibrancy to our already beautiful arts campus.”

Artlink, with local artists Adam Garland and Nate Utesch, will design and install two crosswalk murals on the downtown arts campus.  Adam and Nate will each receive a stipend to design a crosswalk this fall. Artlink has extended their goal to $3,400 in hopes to fund a third crosswalk mural.

With 20 days left in the campaign, there’s still time to fund the three other projects that are currently vying for community support on the Amplify Art! web page. To date, nearly 100 gifts have been made to the projects, totaling over $9,500.

The Cinema Center will bring classic, independent (and sometimes edgy) films to the whole community through the Cinema Center Road Tour, a series of cool, outdoor screenings next summer. Donations from the community will allow Cinema Center to legally purchase the rights to the films, staff the screenings and purchase an inflatable, outdoor screen. Of the Cinema Center’s $6,200 goal, $2,670 has been raised so far.

Starting May 25, 2016, the Embassy Theatre will host Summer Nights at the Embassy with food, beverages and entertainment on the Embassy’s new Rooftop Patio and Ballroom. There will be 16 events with a variety of performers, musicians, dancers and buskers. The Embassy Theatre has raised $2,220 of their $4,800 goal.

The Civic Theatre collaborates with Science Central to bring the magic of live theatre and the world of science together.  Presented as a gift to local veterans, active duty and reserve military and their families, Operation Science Theatre includes free tickets to a special matinee of the musical A Christmas Story paired with interactive displays that illustrate the science behind what you see on stage.  The tongue stuck to the flagpole, washing Ralphie’s mouth out with soap, how a BB gun works and more.  The Fort Wayne Civic Theatre has raised $1,510 toward their $10,000 goal.

Selected arts and cultural projects will automatically receive seed funding of $1,000 from Arts United. Gifts from individuals in the community will be matched dollar for dollar up to $1,500 with support from the Knight Foundation. By leveraging the seed funding and matching incentive to raise broad community support, participating organizations can receive $4,000 or more for arts projects.
