Arts United and YLNI partner to bring the Creative Class to emerging professionals in Greater Fort Wayne
Emerging leaders are encouraged to participate in sessions offered year-round dedicated to educating and engaging young professionals in the nonprofit arts community in Fort Wayne.
Fort Wayne, Indiana, December 30, 2014: To better connect, educate and engage emerging leaders with the major arts and culture nonprofit organizations in our community, Arts United and YLNI have partnered to bring the Creative Class Series to Greater Fort Wayne. Every second Tuesday of the month during 2015, young professionals are encouraged to spend their lunch hour learning about the 12 Principal Partner organizations that Arts United supports— ARCH, Artlink, Cinema Center, FAME, Fort Wayne Ballet, Fort Wayne Civic Theatre, Fort Wayne Dance Collective, Fort Wayne Museum of Art, Fort Wayne Philharmonic, Fort Wayne Youtheatre, The History Center, and the Unity Performing Arts Foundation. Each session runs from 12:00-1:00 and takes place in the unique spaces each organization uses to serve their patrons. Participants are encouraged to bring their own lunch to each session.
“The Creative Class series was developed by a nine member steering committee made up of young professionals from a variety of different industries,” said Rena Burden, Arts United Director of Development. “We identified that there is no lack of interest in the arts, but people are unsure of how to take the first steps to becoming more involved. We’ve found that emerging leaders in our community with a passion for the arts are ready to move from the audience seats to a service role.”
Executive Directors and business leaders from Arts United’s 12 Principal Partner organizations will give a brief overview of their organization and professional careers. They will also describe their role within the organization and how young professionals can become involved, ranging from volunteer opportunities to becoming an active board member. Arts United and YLNI designed this series to help emerging leaders have a better understanding of the impact that arts organizations have in our community, and how they, as emerging leaders, can impact our community’s major nonprofit arts organizations.
“As a nonprofit arts organization in Fort Wayne, Artlink and its staff are excited to participate in this new series. We are always looking for ways to engage young leaders and this will help us connect with them and share our mission.” Says Amber Recker, Executive Director of Artlink.
Kourtney Teegardin, Grant Coordinator at the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership and Creative Class steering committee member, said, “As Northeast Indiana attracts talent that isn’t native to the area, having an outlet to learn more about community nonprofit organizations and ways to become involved will strengthen their attachment to the region.”
